What is a Nutritionist?

HELLO again & Happy New Year!

I just wanted to do a quick bite size post about … NUTRITIONIST’S.

What are they? What do they do? How can they help you?

SO many people have gone blank when I say, I’m a Nutritionist. It seems common amongst people I meet (even my family, yes…my family) that have no idea what I do. I am hoping to change that, I have big goals for my future as a Nutritionist and working amongst my mob & community (more on that later).

Do you know what a Clinical Nutritionist does? Totally fine if you don’t, you may have never needed a Nutritionist. Although, we could probably help a lot more than you think. Do you have low energy? aching joints? gut upsets? poor diet? excess weight? acne? children that are picky eaters. These are a few examples of the health concerns we can address. Food is a MAJOR contributor to health and disease.

Clinical Nutritionists do a lot more than meal plans and allergy testing, which seems to be the common answer I encounter to ‘what a Nutritionist does’. I personally offer individual consults, SOS therapy consultations, in home cooking classes, and personal shopping tours (learn what to buy and how to cook up quick tasty meals). I also offer tailored services, mindful eating therapy, NDIS plans and personalised cook books for independent living.

So… a Clinical nutritionist (that is me) uses a holistic approach to healing, we take into consideration the whole person. We use an evidence-based approach…meaning…researched findings are used to support patient treatments plans and diet modifications. We are university trained and association registered.

Disease & illness is complex with many contributing factors. Nutritionist will look at the entire health picture (Holistic), not just the disease itself…what is underlying? what other symptoms are present? Giving patients an individualised care plan in response to their health, teaching patients how to care for their body. “Docere” in Latin meaning to teach.

As a clinical nutritionist, I do health assessments (blood pressure, blood sugar etc) and testing (order blood tests, zinc, allergy & microbiome testing etc) to look further into your health picture. I can also prescribe practitioner grade supplements where necessary to support your health.

So…hopefully this answers some of the mystery of Nutritionists.

If you have some health concerns you want to address, come see me. Make that step on your journey to a better, healthier you today. Make yourself a priority and live your best life.

Love, nourish and care for your body
